Paddle 25 miles, camping half way!

Springwood is a public boat landing about 25 miles up the James River from WCC. You will be required to carry all camping gear in your canoe.

Get started.

Arrive at WCC the day of your trip with all necessary gear and supplies including dry bags (heavy duty trash bags work). Trip start times will be arranged when the reservation is made and should be between 8:30 am and 12 noon any day of the week.

You will be dropped off at Springwood where you will load your canoe and begin your 11 mile (3-4 hours) voyage to Arcadia. Mostly class I rapids along the way with a couple strong class II's.

Once at Arcadia, Breeden Bottom Campground is just past the highway bridge on the river right. Park your boat and set up camp in your designated campsite. Porta potties are provided, but all other necessities must be packed in and packed out.

The next day.

Fully extinguish your campfire, load your camping equipment in your canoe and continue downstream for the remaining 14 miles (5-6 hours) to WCC where your car is parked.
