Wilderness Canoe Co.

Campsite descriptions:

Site 7- This is the most primitive site we have. With only 1 neighbor (site 6), it is very private and remote. The river is literally a stone throw from your picnic table and stone fire ring.

This site has shallow (knee deep) moving water located just above a class I rapid. Great fishing!

This site floods before all other sites and may not always be available.

We strongly recommend a four wheel drive vehicle to access this site, although parking is available for vehicles that cant access the site.

Site 6- This site has two areas, an upper and a lower, each with a stone fire ring and a picnic table. The upper area is flat and far enough away from the river not to flood. The lower area is right on the river and floods frequently. Put your tent in either spot.

Great site for sitting in the river, fishing or just relaxing with the sound of the class I rapid in front of your site. Good river access for kayaks, canoes and tubes.

Site 5- Like site 4, this site has a couple of paths that will lead you down the fairly steep bank to the river. The river in front of the site is usually waist deep and gently flowing. Great for fishing and cooling off. Stone fire ring and picnic table set overlooking the flowing river.

Lots of trees for shade, including persimmons which become ripe in the fall.

Site 4- Great view of the river with fairly easy access to the river in front of the stone fire ring. Lots of small shade trees and some of the biggest mature trees on the property. There is a large patch of trees and bushes separating this site from site 3.

Very large area for tents, cars, small trailers and anything else you bring.

Great fishing spot!

Site 3- This site has a great view of the flowing James River. Access to the river is through a small hole in the bushes.

A great spot for relaxing in the shade of mature trees. Stone fire ring and picnic table included. There is a large patch of trees and bushes separating this site from site 4.

Group Site (formerly site 1 and 2)- This site is closest to the river take-out area and is ideal for large groups to spread out.

Groups as small as 10 and as large as 30 will enjoy ample room for multiple tents, canopies, kitchen trailers and many other things.

Shade trees, a steel fire ring, picnic tables and easy access to the river are included.
